A List of Schindlers

Oskar Schindler's family tree reveals modest Moravian German origins.

Lately I've been doing a bit of reading about the life of Oskar Schindler, the German Industrialist who saved the lives of nearly 1,200 Jews during the Holocaust. As it turns out, he was from Svitavy, a town in modern-day Czech Republic.

The tree is still a work in progress, but I've already found some interesting names in both Schindler's lineage and that of his wife Emilie, maiden name Pelzl. In fact, this family seems to have a bizarre abundance of two-syllable surnames beginning with P and ending with L. Going back only a few generations I have already found Pelzl, Peichl, Pieschl, and Pischl. (The latter two are variants.)

What is more, I have also found a couple surnames that really appeal to my rather immature sense of humor, notably Luser and Ficker.

Check out the tree:

(Keep in mind, it's a work in progress!)
